Relationship Counseling

No marriage or relationship is perfect.  It takes work and patience.  However, sometimes we lose sight of the fact that each member of the relationship has different values, different perceptions, and different histories that shape their view on life.  These differences can cause strife in the relationship.

Other external variables such as a sudden financial problem or interference from a partner’s family can add additional stressors on a relationship.

Relationship therapy can help you understand how to communicate your values and expectations as well as understand your partner’s values and expectations.

Whether you are seeking help for a marriage or for a parent-child relationship, Camille Weas Therapy can help.

The basic principles for therapy include:

•    Confidential dialogue, which normalizes feelings
•    To enable each person to be heard and to hear themselves
•    Provide a mirror with expertise to reflect the relationship's difficulties and the potential direction for change
•    Empower the relationship to take control of its own destiny and make vital decisions
•    Deliver relevant and appropriate information
•    Changes the view of the relationship
•    Improve communication

eating disorders

Those suffering from Anorexia Nervosa typically have an unhealthy obsession with their weight.  An unrealistic perception of body image leads them to restrict their food intake to such a degree that it could have physically damaging consequences.  These include brain damage, organ failure and even a risk of death.

Bulimia Nervosa is another unhealthy obsession with weight only it is characterized by “binge and purge” eating.  Victims will gorge themselves with food and then try to compensate by forcing themselves to vomit, exercise excessively, or overuse laxatives.

Binge Eating Disorder is the compulsive need to overeat.  Unlike Bulimia, however, these people do not compensate for their binge eating.  This leads or morbid obesity and, consequently, health maladies associated with obesity.

Symptoms of an eating disorders include:

  • Chronic dieting despite being hazardously underweight.

  • Constant weight fluctuations.

  • Obsession with calories and fat contents of food.

  • Engaging in ritualistic eating patterns, such as cutting food into tiny pieces, eating alone, and/or hiding food.

  • Continued fixation with food, recipes, or cooking; the individual may cook intricate meals for others but refrain from partaking.

  • Depression or lethargic stage.

  • Avoidance of social functions, family, and friends. May become isolated and withdrawn.

  • Switching between periods of overeating and fasting.

If you, or someone you know, has symptoms of one of these disorders, contact Camille Weas Therapy today.

coping with tragedy & trauma

Studies have shown that people grieve differently when a sudden and tragic loss occurs as compared to a long-anticipated loss.

For example, if a close relative slowly passes away from some unfortunate disease, the family members have time to brace for the loss.  In contrast, if a loved one suddenly passes away due to an accident or some other tragic incident, the family members process this grief differently.

Some of the different symptoms include:

  • Lack of overt sadness caused by shock.

  • Outrage and anger.

  • A sense of blaming the lost loved one.

  • A greater sense of vulnerability and inability to trust.

Sudden losses can often be accompanied by tangential losses.  For instance, a loss of income or loss of social status.  These may exacerbate an already fragile emotional state.

Camille Weas Therapy can help guide you through these troubling times and help you get your life back on track.

managing stress

Everyone has stress in their lives.  Stress comes from work, family, relationships, traffic, finances...the list goes on.  However, Chronic Stress is a disorder that needs managing.

An extreme amount of stress can have health consequences, affecting the immune, cardiovascular and neuroendocrine and central nervous systems, and take a severe emotional toll on yourself and your family.

Untreated chronic stress can result in serious health conditions including anxiety, insomnia, muscle pain, high blood pressure and a weakened immune system. Research shows that stress can contribute to the development of major illnesses, such as heart disease, depression and obesity.

Camille Weas Therapy can be your support system and provide recommendations to help you mitigate the stress in your life.

overcoming phobias

Unlike the brief anxiety you may feel in situations like speaking in front of a group or asking a person out on a date, specific phobias are long lasting, cause intense physical and psychological reactions, and can affect your ability to function normally.

Severe phobias are likely to produce these types of reactions:

  • An immediate feeling of intense fear, anxiety and panic when exposed to or even thinking about the source of your fear.

  • Awareness that your fears are unreasonable or exaggerated but feeling powerless to control them.

  • Worsening anxiety as the situation or object gets closer to you in time or physical proximity.

  • Doing everything possible to avoid the object or situation or enduring it with intense anxiety or fear.

  • Difficulty functioning normally because of your fear.

  • Physical reactions and sensations, including sweating, rapid heartbeat, tight chest or difficulty breathing.

  • In children, possibly tantrums, clinging, crying, or refusing to leave a parent's side or approach their fear.

Specific phobias are among the most common anxiety disorders, and not all phobias need treatment. But if a specific phobia affects your daily life, Camille Weas Therapy offers therapies that can help you work through and overcome your fears — often permanently
