Laura Holway, MA, LPCC

Laura Holway blends psychodynamic psychotherapy with the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) to support adult individuals in deepening their connection to themselves and one another. Laura offers a compassionate space for navigating life transitions, parenting challenges, mood disorders, and a range of symptoms related to experiences of complex and developmental trauma.

Laura Holway supports adult individuals of all ages as they navigate life transitions, relationship difficulties, and challenges stemming from developmental and complex trauma. She is certified in the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM), and blends this with a psychodynamic approach to help clients get curious about the deeper patterns fueling their symptoms and behavior.

The shortest and most true answer is that I love people. I feel so lucky to witness and support others through the messiness of life and the process of befriending themselves.

I spent a decade as a coach and consultant working in the arts before becoming a therapist. I felt that the missing piece in my work was to address the underlying factors shaping my client’s behavior and internal world. I’m also an inquisitive person; someone who enjoys nerding out on psychology and self-help books, but also questioning them.

What brought you to counseling?

My approach blends psychodynamic psychotherapy with NARM (the NeuroAffective Relational Model—a framework for working with developmental and complex trauma) to help my clients become more conscious of the patterns driving their symptoms and difficulties. I hold a space for my clients to cultivate a deeper relationship with themselves—to see themselves with more curiosity. With more curiosity comes greater capacity for self-understanding, and with this self-understanding, more self-compassion.

Psychologist Carl Rogers said, “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I can change.” I believe this to be true.

I hold a compassionate, collaborative, and sometimes humor-filled space for exploration, and respect that each individual’s process, needs, and goals are one of a kind. I value client consent and agency throughout the therapeutic process.

What’s it like to work with you?

I directed and choreographed movement-based performance work for many years, including a living room performance series that traveled to Twin Cities homes during winter. Art and creativity continue to be important parts of my life.
